EXPLORE:
The spectactular Northumbrian coast has a wealth of things to do and places to visit. There is good reason why it was always called ‘England’s best kept secret’!
www.visitnorthumberland.com is a useful informative website.
Local walks
We are surrounded by wonderful award- winning beaches, many historic castles including Bamburgh, Alnwick, Dunstanburgh, Holy Island (check tide table!) Walkers and cyclists will find many routes including St Cuthberts Way, (which goes from Melrose to Holy Island), the Sandstone Way (for the more hardy cyclist) both of which use part of our track, and the National Cycle Route goes through Detchant.
Why not bring your walking boots and/or your bikes and explore the hills and surrounding area! The AONB and National Parks are not far, and worth exploring.
Towns
The towns of Alnwick, Berwick and Wooler are nearby, or head inland via Coldstream to the Border town of Kelso.
The Farne Islands can be reached by boat from Seahouses, and is a must for those who have never been there. Alnmouth, Amble, Craster (famous for the Craster Kippers) and Warkworth down southwards down the coast are lovely places to visit, with good places to eat.
The the nearby track is a bridal path, part of the sandstone way cycle route, and part of St Cuthbert’s way and the National Cycle Route goes through Detchant.
Why not bring your walking boots and/or your bikes and explore the hills and surrounding area! The AONB and National Parks are not far, and worth exploring.

On clear nights, you can see the Milky Way in all its glory, sparkling constellations, and even the Northern Lights when conditions are right. The area’s recognised Dark Skies make it an ideal place to enjoy the wonders of space, with crisp, clear views of the stars above.
Whether you’re a seasoned astronomer or just looking to enjoy a peaceful evening under the stars, Greymare promises a truly special experience.
wildlife
Immerse yourself in the peace and quiet of Northumberland, with breathtaking views of the lake right from your cabin. The ever-changing birdlife unfolds before you, with swans, mallard, pink foot geese, curlew, the wonderful sound of the sky lark, and often hear the buzzard mewing as its soaring above. Binoculars provided in the cabin bring this wildlife spectacle even closer, making it perfect for birdwatching enthusiasts. Roe deer roam about in the dusk and dawn, but are shy. Beyond the lake, you can see the iconic Northumberland coast, adding to the sense of peace and natural wonder. Whether you’re gazing out at sunrise or soaking in the serenity at dusk, this lakeside retreat offers an unforgettable connection to nature. Walking out from the cabin through the woods, onto the moor and up to St Cuthberts Cave provides a different environment to soak up.
