Local walks

We are surrounded by wonderful award- winning beaches, many historic castles including Bamburgh, Alnwick, Dunstanburgh, Holy Island (check tide table!) Walkers and cyclists will find many routes including  St Cuthberts Way, (which goes from Melrose to Holy Island), the Sandstone Way (for the more hardy cyclist) both of which use part of our track, and the National Cycle Route goes through Detchant.

Why not bring your walking boots and/or your bikes and explore the hills and surrounding area! The AONB and National Parks are not far, and worth exploring.

The Farne Islands can be reached by boat from Seahouses, and is a must for those who have never been there. Alnmouth, Amble, Craster (famous for the  Craster Kippers)  and Warkworth down southwards down the coast are lovely places to visit, with good places to eat.

We booked this as a honeymoon for a long weekend just after our wedding. It was the most beautiful location! We wanted a peaceful off-grid escape from our usual Manchester home and got exactly what we were looking for. Absolutely every single detail is thought out, we went short of nothing. Just when you think it may be short of something you'll find it! We used the grill on the front porch for several meals, got cosy on the couch to enjoy the real little log fire inside. Used the outdoor seating to star gaze and bird watch with the blanket provided! Such an amazing romantic break! Surrounded by nature and an excellent view of Lindesfarne and the East coast with some really easy going walks that circle right back to the cabin! 100% will be coming back for a summer weekend!

The cabin is in a secluded setting close to St. Cuthbert’s Way and has a clear view over the lake to the coast. It has easy access to the A1 and lots to visit nearby. The cabin is cosy and compact, beautifully fitted out with all you need for a few days away. We were contacted by Georgie soon after arrival to check we had settled in and all was well. Highly recommended for a break from city life with the chance of seeing some stars.

With a beautiful view of the lake, peaceful nature surrounding and a cosy fire pit, this property offers the perfect outdoor experience. Located on Greymare Farm, the cabin itself was incredibly snug. Equipped with all the amenities we needed, we felt right at home. It is now our favourite place to stay! The owner Georgie was so kind and helpful throughout our stay, you could not ask for a more attentive host. I highly recommend this place for anyone wanting to connect with nature, or anyone looking for a comfortable and restful trip. I loved getting to know the animals around us. The cows specifically were very happy to get a visit from us! Locally there was so much to explore, with multiple castles and beaches in nearby areas. We filled each day easily and still have plenty more to see next time! The surrounding villages had pubs, restaurants and tea rooms which we thoroughly enjoyed. We fell in love with Greymare Outlook and cannot wait to return!

Stunning location and views - the photos can't do it justice! Blissfully quiet, felt a whole world away from reality. The location itself is a perfect base for Northumberland and the Scottish Borders. The cabin itself was lovely, very clean, and exceptionally well equipped. The tea was especially welcome as we forgot ours! We met Georgie briefly and she was exactly like her communucation with us - warm, lovely, and helpful. We mentioned forgetting binoculars and she dug some out for us! Beyond lovely.

We had the most wonderful time at Georgie’s place . My sister and brother-in-law had been before and fell in love with it so this time they went they invited us along . It was everything they described and more, stunning views a lovely cosy little hut with everything you need . For us it was great to get off grid enjoy playing games, talking listening to the radio . Reading and lots of laughing ! We had outdoor adventures too ! It was perfect for time together but also the huts are far enough apart to enjoy time just on our own .. We would highly recommend this beautiful place for anyone who wants to get away from everyday life .. perfect for couples and groups of friends lots of space ! We will definitely come back ! So cosy and relaxing with the wood burner We didn’t want to leave .. we will definitely be back if you will have us Big thank you to Georgie!! Great host x

A beautiful place to relax in Northumberland. Well away from the busier towns but close enough to explore if you so desire. The cabin was very comfortable and well-equipped, despite being off the grid. Excellent all round!

We had a lovely long weekend at Greymare - the cabin is really comfortable, and is well connected while still feeling private. Georgie was a great host - instructions were clear, and she provided us with loads of helpful recommendations in the guest book. Thanks Georgie!

Perfection in miniature. The most stunning location to stay amongst nature with total tranquility, peace & privacy, overlooking a private lake with the view beyond of Budle Bay, Holy Island and Bamburgh Castle.Grey Mare Lookout & its sister Outlook are aspected perfectly to sit on the veranda to watch the sun rise or sunset, with amazing stars on a clear night(no light pollution) fire pit a stones throw away, and a super gas bbq for grilling on the veranda. The miniature woodburner was so tiny, yet its 4kw output! Makes it super cosy & really compliments the wood cabin.Wood, logs, kindling & fire lighters all there for your use and ash bin, rubbish bins etc. This is a professional set up & demands the upmost of respect to the host for allowing anyone to stay at their precious & intimate mini 'home from home' The host has clearly tried to think of everything! If you like a break to stay away from the masses, this is for you. If you want a party & to play loud music all night.not for you!

I absolutely loved my stay here, the views were amazing and it felt so peaceful looking over the lake and listening to the birds. The cabin was cosy, comfortable and well thought-out with everything you could need during your stay provided. Georgie was a great host and very responsive. She sorted out a problem really quickly and was extremely helpful and friendly, even offering me help when my car wouldn't start on my last day! The location is great and there is loads to do in the area and some beautiful beaches. Georgie showed me round her other (identical) cabin which is just around the corner on the same lake with equally fab views, I would happily recommend this one too. I will hopefully be back for another stay one day!

A really special spot.. so calm and lovely to watch the trees and water (& wildlife!) from the cabin. Well equipped kitchen and definitely doable to do basic cooking. We didn’t make use of the log burner or fire pit but these would be great especially on colder nights! Great location to explore Northumberland- we enjoyed a walk from Bamburgh to Seahouses, a lunch in Alnmouth, trips to Cragside (National Trust) and Holy Island. We didn’t book in time but The Potted Lobster is also close, apparently best fish & chips around!

Our weekend visiting the Lookout has been one to remember for all the right reasons. We were met with a idyllic cabin in beautiful surroundings. It offers everything you may need for a getaway in terms of amenities and comfort, but it offers so much more in the way of providing memories and giving a soul healing experience. It gives a remote breakaway, with the benefits of local sightseeing opportunities. If you do happen to visit the Lookout, makesure you step outside at night to look up! You will not be sorry. We've seen night sky's in many parts of the world but the stars at the cabin are literally out of this world. Our host Georgie was a pleasure and delight to talk with. One of the best Airb&b hosts and stays we've had. We look forward to scheduling another trip to the Lookout again. Our main reason for visiting was to visit the inner farne, which is a must if your in the area. We got some amazing photos along with our experience.

Our fourth stay at Georgie’s Lookout and it won’t be our last. A really peaceful weekend retreat was just what we needed and just what we knew we’d get. Enjoying our own company, some nice food and drink, and the views out towards Holy Island. Georgie our host made sure the accommodation had everything we needed. We highly recommend this place if you are looking for somewhere to chill.

I can't recommend Greymare Lookout enough, what an incredible stay! The cabin is absolutely beautiful, perfectly nestled in the peaceful Northumberland countryside with breathtaking views of the coast and Holy Island. It was the perfect mix of comfort and seclusion with plenty of thoughtful touches and everything we needed for a relaxing getaway. Georgie was an outstanding host, warm, welcoming, and attentive without ever being intrusive. She provided clear communication from the moment we booked. You can tell how much care and love has gone into creating this special retreat. This place is a gem and we're already planning our return!
